St Matthew's stands in what was formerly the railway village of Waskerley which has largely been demolished following the closure of the railway line.The character of the church has changed little.Both it's facade and interior are utilitarian and spartan in appearance,with plain wooden furnishings. It is still lit by gaslight and very unique.
