St Mary the Virgin Church, Frensham is the main Parish Church in the Benefice of Frensham , with The Church of the Good Shepherd, Dockenfield being the Chapel of Ease.
We are a friendly Church and welcome people of faith, no faith and all faiths.
" Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control" (Galatians 5:22-23) are central to our Church mission along with prayer, pastoral care, sincere engagement and listening, education and the provision of a sacred space within our historical Church buildings. We are focused on the Love of God and the Love of our neighbour
Churches are almost entirely funded by voluntary giving so it is through the generosity of people like yourself that we are able to continue to offer "an environment where God’s love gets through”
Safeguarding
The Benefice of Frensham is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer.
The Dedication of the historical Church of St Mary the Virgin is recorded in the Annals of Waverley Abbey for the year 1239:
"The Church of Fermesham has been moved this year from the place where it was first sited to another place with the advice and help of Luke, Archdeacon of Surrey, and in the same year it has been dedicated."
Nothing is known of its previous site, but as to the likely cause of the removal, the Annals tell of massive storms in the area in the 1230s.
Our two magnificent church buildings in their rural settings within the Frensham Benefice provide the perfect place for worship and prayer in times of celebration and reflection.
We are a vibrant community of all ages and backgrounds with a Christian vision to make a positive difference to the people of Frensham and to those beyond. We would love you to join us.
