St Mary's Church in Brent Eleigh offers a warm welcome to all; built in c.1250, our beautiful medieval church set in the undulating landscape of South Suffolk (as immortalised through the paintings of Thomas Gainsborough, born in nearby Sudbury), is best known in the wider world for a unique set of altar paintings, which are acknowledged by experts as 'the finest and earliest in the country', being dated to creation in the period 1275-1325. We receive visitors from far and wide, not only to see the paintings for themselves, but also other features, and share the history. Brent Eleigh was also part of 'the Lavenham story' (just 2 miles away)with spinning, and water mills.
We particularly welcome enquiries for group guided tours, and given adequate notice, we can provide suitable refreshments too. Email [email protected]
Our wonderful Grade 1 church requires ongoing upkeep for the fabric, and for our work; thus we welcome donations, whether single, regular, through PGS (or not), via our QR code, direct to bank account, and our new contactless 'Collectin' at St. Mary's. We have fund raising events, and please do join us!
